Original plans for Crown Jewel World Cup

We noted before how both John Cena and Daniel Bryan refused to wrestle at the upcoming Crown Jewel event and WWE had to make some major changes to the event because of it.

One of these changes were made to the announced World Cup tournament at the upcoming show, in which John was originally expected to compete.

According to Mike Johnson of Pwinsider, the original idea for the World Cup was to mix the talents up and John was going to fight Rey Mysterio in a first-round match at the show.

However, WWE then changed these plans and they decided to keep SmackDown and Raw talents separate until the finals, so the tournament serves as a preview for the upcoming Survivor Series PPV where talents from both brands will compete against each other.

We already know the original plans for Bryan were for him to wrestle AJ Styles for the WWE title but Officials changed this bout to Styles vs. Samoa Joe on the latest episode of SmackDown Live.
