Samoa Joe on who helped him get to WWE, getting nervous in NXT

Samoa Joe is a Submission Machine and he’s dominated his way all the way to a Universal Title shot against Brock Lesnar at Great Balls Of Fire. He choked out Paul Heyman, a man who he credits with getting him a meeting with WWE in the first place (but we’ll get into that later), he made Brock Lesnar looks beatable, but most importantly he’s done great business for WWE so far.

Joe recently sat down with Edge and Christian on their Pod Of Awesomeness to discuss some of his career and the path that led him to WWE. As Christian sat in Samoa Joe’s office chair and ran his bare toes through Joe’s angora carpet Samoa Joe said when he left TNA he had no offer on the table from WWE.

Joe said people he had met along the way got in Triple H’s ear and convinced him to have a meeting with Joe. He credited people like Christian, Paul Heyman, Joey Mercury, Road Dogg and others for putting in a good word for him.

When Samoa Joe was first signed to a deal it was only an NXT contract. When the decision was made later on to bring Joe up his deal was probably changed a bit. But as Joe sits before his biggest challenge in WWE to date as he prepares to battle The Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar he looks back at his first days in NXT and remembers them fondly.

Joe wasn’t in NXT for very long but while he was there he ran roughshod over the entire roster. But Joe told Edge and Christian that he actually got nervous for the first time in a long time before stepping through the curtain when he debuted in NXT. He said it was an endorphin charge he needed and it obviously didn’t hamper his ability to perform in the slightest.
