Spoilers: WWE SmackDown Tapings – 3/29/2013

– Thanks to Zach Border (@zachb1012) for the following WWE SmackDown spoilers from tonight’s tapings in Hershey, PA:

* The Rock kicks off SmackDown and gets a massive pop from the crowd. Rock tells a story about Hershey from when he was younger and cuts a promo on John Cena. He’s interrupted by John Laurinaitis. Rock asks who the hell Laurinaitis is. Laurinaitis says Teddy Long gave him permission to come out.

Laurinaitis says John Cena is the reason he was fired and he wants to be in Rock’s corner at WrestleMania. Rock says we’ll let the people decide and they boo. Rock says he and Laurinaitis should send Cena a message together but they need a handshake first. Rock lays Laurinaitis out with a spinebuster and a People’s Elbow. Rock pulls a giant Hershey bar from under the ring, signs it and gives it to kids in the crowd.

* Chris Jericho defeats Wade Barrett. Jericho speaks after the match and says he would love to face the Intercontinental Champion at WrestleMania but guesses he will face Fandango instead. The Fandango silhouette drops down on the stage. Jericho picks on Fandango’s name. Fandango comes out, walks to the ring but turns around and leaves.

* While they set up for the weight lifting competition, an interview from earlier in the day with Paul Heyman talking to Matt Striker about Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H is shown.

* Booker T, Teddy Long, Ryback and Mark Henry come out for the weight lifting challenge. Ryback is up first. Henry and Ryback get the same score. Booker reminds them of a no-contact policy. Henry drops the weight bar across Ryback’s neck and Ryback rolls around choking.

* Dolph Ziggler, Big E Langston and AJ Lee vs. Kane, Daniel Bryan and Kaitlyn is up next in mixed-tag action. Kane gives the boot to Big E and Kaitlyn pins AJ for the win.

* The Shield cut a promo on the big screen.

* Jack Swagger and The Great Khali wrestle in what was said to be a very bad match. They both get counted out. Swagger puts the Patriot Lock on Hornswoggle when Ricardo Rodriguez comes out and tells Swagger to come and get him. Alberto Del Rio sneaks in the ring and puts the armbreaker on Zeb Colter. Del Rio holds Zeb and Ricardo hits him with the crutch. Swagger comes back and Del Rio hits him.

* Backstage interview with Sheamus, Randy Orton and Big Show.

* They show Arnold Schwarzenegger’s tweet talking about inducting Bruno Sammartino.

* Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow and Antonio Cesaro vs. Sheamus, Big Show and Randy Orton is up next. Orton, Show and Sheamus get the win. The Shield appears but get chased into the crowd. Orton, Show and Sheamus beat them up bad and pose at the top of the stairs.

I have no issue with Cesaro jobbing to a Sheamus or Kane….they are big stars after all. However having him lose non title matches to these guys over and over every week is moronic and killing his momentum. The U.S. Champion shouldn’t be cast in the resident jobber role. Again a loss here and there against a Cena or Orton doesn’t kill the guy, but every week????????

  • Mabry

yeah, i just saw him loosing to Kane on Main Event or something… I have allways thought that a champion should never loose a match unless it is to drop the belt… Cesaro and Barrett arent looking too strong as champions…. WM might suck this year!!!

  • Daniel Schein

Sadly he has no feud going, and has jobbed in non title matches to random guys already set in Mania bouts. I had hoped they would maybe do a #1 Contender Battle Royal and have a returning name like Christian or Mysterio get the shot. The return could be the selling point to make up for the lack of build.

  • Mabry

yeah, thats pretty dumb, Cesaro is a great “wrestler” and performer, and he should get a good match, against a guy like…. Jericho, i think thats the match Y2J should have gotten, just imagine how they would have stolen the show, plus, the crown allready knows Cesaro, unlike Fandango!!!…. i really hope Cesaro is in the card after all…

  • Daniel Schein

He has had bad luck the past two Mania’s missing out. Honestly I think he got the chance over Cesaro simply by having seniority in the company

  • Daniel Schein

Right now the card stads at nine matches which has been the limit for Mania recently…..since it looks likely AJ vs Kaitlyn for The Divas Title and Clay, Tensai, Cameron, And Naomi vs Rhodes, Sandow, and The Bellas will also be added that makes eleven which is a record for the modern WWE era. Of course one of the matches will be the pre show, which completely squashes Antonio Cesaro’s chances.

  • Mabry

good, at least Barrett is in….

  • mohamed elkatatnee

Barrett will face Miz ( Official )

and i think that Sandow & Rhodes will face Brodus Clay & Tensai

  • Mabry

i totally agree here!!!!, ive been saying it, am ok with Jericho putting Fandango over, but not at this years Wrestlemania, not because he doesnt deserve it or isnt good, but because he hasnt had a match yet, while guys like Cesaro who have been wrestling this past year seems like wont get to be in the card, just like Rhodes, Sandow, and even Barrett….

  • Pewp

    Fandango = Disco Inferno.

  • Me

Why do they continue to put Khali in matches? I know he’s big in India (pun not intended) but holy crap is he a god awful wrestler.

  • Daniel Schein

It is a crime against humanity that Fandango has a match and not Cesaro who has been stellar over the past year. Fandango is talented don’t get me wrong, but this is Wrestlemania and this gimmick is brand new and could still easily flop. Honestly I think the sole reason they are doing this is because Jericho did Dancing With The Stars.

  • anthony-ke

Why would they put Big E in a match, the only interesting thing about that Wrestlemania match was Big E Langston’s debut.

  • Another craptastic Smackdown. NCAA Tournament here I come…
