The Truth:Impact & Smackdown

I finished watching the end of Friday Night Smackdown and I have to say I was extremely impressed. Not with the entire show but with final segments including the Undertaker and  the return of Paul Bearer. I read the spoilers this week and was excited just in reading that he had returned so I was curious to see how it played out.

Initially I had mixed feelings about all the shots of the Undertaker in the stairwell with that disparaging look on his face, thinking it didn’t quite fit. Then when they showed the final clip, where Takers head was down and the shadow of the door opened and after once telling the figure to go away, Taker finally looked up and stared as if he had seen a ghost, before standing up and rolling his eyes into his head.

To me this could not have played out better, it was well set up, well executed and even knowing the results it came off great. There was also a very nice reaction from the live crowd for Paul Bearer. Lynden you asked what way this storyline could be better, I think they just did it. Love the Paul Bearer element.

I really hope that Punk is back on his way to a main level feud, I can’t say enough about how much I think he brings to the show. I’m not sure if there’s anyone out there right now with his in ring ability and charisma.( perhaps an article coming soon) If there is someone in need of getting over, put him in a feud with Punk and I have a feeling that’ll do the trick.

So impressed with Kaval and his in ring ability. I like the fact they are making him look good even in losses, a nice  slow build. I think we sometimes forget just how talented Chavo Guerrero is, possibly due to his lack of TV time but anytime he gets in the ring you’re in for a real treat.  I almost think they should turn him into a good guy of sorts. All his Eddie tributes make it hard for the fans to root against him, even despite what a natural heel he is. Kerwin White 2.0 anyone?

I tried watching Impact again and I’m slowly starting to get into it. I don’t expect a whole lot so I try and take some positives out of each show. This week there was….there was….sh%%. The show wasn’t terrible, it’s just there wasn’t anything great about it. Unfortunately none of the matches were very good, even the ladder match with Sabu and AJ Styles, which I had high expectations for, sadly was disappointing. A lot of the promos seemed mistimed and had no impact whatsoever, no pun intended.

They are playing up the whole Abyss thing well, hopefully “they” will be someone of interest.

If someone could explain that Angle/Anderson promo to me that would be great. Kennedy(Anderson w/e) came off great in it with a few lines but that entire promo had no point. It was Ken Anderson coming out telling Angle, hey Im an asshole but Im gonna tell you to your face Im an asshole. Now even though we’re gonna fight in a few weeks and this has absolutely no point, I just wanted to come out here and tell you up front okay. Although his line about Kurt Angle for the last time ladies and gentlemen, I gotta admit was priceless.

I don’t think it makes sense for his a$$hole character to call Angle the best in the business but hes not wrong. (feel free to include your feedback on that one) His character is one of the better things going, he really hit his stride with that one, it looks like hes really playing himself and it comes off well. It should be a really interesting main event at Bound For Glory, I can’t imagine Angle losing but Anderson seems closer than ever to a world title and Hardy isn’t that far off either.

In either case it should be a really entertaining main event and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens. I’ ll be back with a few thoughts and some predictions on Hell in a Cell, that is assuming that we get more than 3 matches announced before next weeks installment of, another gimmick match being run into the ground with an unnecessarily themed pay per view of a once great match. But thats just my thought. Until next time.

Oh yea and btw, do they really need to emphasize Hell in a Cell so much when they announce the matches.  I think Kane and Michael Cole overdid it this week, we all know what ppv is coming up, so there’s really no need in acting like there’s some big surprise when you announce that in two weeks time, Randy Orton will defend his WWE title against Sheamus in (pause, pause) HELL IN A CELL. Great suspense guys. Im out.
