Former Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy (D-R.I.) gave his endorsement to President Biden for the White House, choosing him over his cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s third-party bid. Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union” to discuss his new book, “Profiles in Mental Health Courage,” Kennedy praised Biden’s commitment to mental health issues, calling him “the best president we’ve ever had on mental health.”

Kennedy emphasized Biden’s dedication to funding community mental health programs across the country, stating, “There is no other choice than Joe Biden. If you care about this addiction crisis and this mental health crisis, Joe Biden is your candidate.” When co-host Dana Bash pointed out that his remarks sounded like an endorsement, Kennedy confirmed it, emphasizing Biden’s personal connection to the issue and his effectiveness in addressing it.

Expressing concern over the possibility of former President Trump being re-elected and the threat it poses to democracy, Kennedy urged Americans to vote for Biden and for democracy over autocracy. He highlighted Biden’s understanding of crucial issues and stressed the importance of voting to safeguard democratic values.

Kennedy, who served in the House from 1995 to 2011 and now advocates for those with addiction and mental health issues through the Kennedy Forum, joined other members of the Kennedy family in endorsing Biden’s re-election. Last month, more than a dozen members of the Kennedy family publicly endorsed Biden, speaking out against Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s independent bid. Kerry Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s youngest sister, praised Biden as a champion for the rights and freedoms their father and uncles stood for.
