15.  Diego Sanchez vs. Paulo Thiago
When it happened – UFC 121:  Lesnar vs. Velasquez (October 23, 2010)

The night of this event my friends and I were all checking out the new EA MMA videogame.  We sat around the TV and like the eager little MMA fans that we are, we began to break down the UFC 121 fight card fight by fight.  Everyone seemed to overlook the Sanchez vs. Thiago bout, which was the fight I looked forward to the most.  So, just to make sure it wasn’t overlooked, I asked what everyone thought about their encounter.  Everyone unanimously agreed that it would be fairly boring and that was all that was said.

Fight time came and when it was time for Sanchez and Thiago, a couple of friends who made those earlier remarks decided to use the fight as a chance to get food, drinks, or relieve themselves.  Me being a huge Paulo Thiago mark, there was no way I was going to miss out on this fight.  And obviously, I wasn’t disappointed.

As I mentioned in my UFC 121 write-up, I was really impressed with Paulo Thiago’s newfound aggression in this fight.  He had previously been criticized for being too complacent in his fights and only going in for the attack when opportunities presented themselves instead of presenting them himself.  However, as impressive as Paulo Thiago looked, Diego Sanchez was not going to settle for having three back to back losses.

In the end, we saw a fifteen minute war that saw several D’arce Choke attempts from Paulo Thiago, but the most notable moment of all was Diego Sanchez channeling his inner Matt Hughes and carrying Paulo Thiago for a slam.

You know what, I’m not going to say anymore.  Just look at this:
