With Edge having announced his retirement on Monday’s Raw, the World Heavyweight Championship was vacated last night on SmackDown.

Christian triumphed in a No. 1 Contender’s World Heavyweight Championship Battle Royal to face No. 1 contender Alberto Del Rio for the vacant World Title at Extreme Rules. The two will face off in a ladder match.

Below is the updated card for Extreme Rules, which takes place May 1.

WWE Championship Triple Threat Match
The Miz (c) vs. R-Truth vs. John Cena

World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match
Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio in a ladder match.

Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross vs. Jack Swagger and Michael Cole

I like the fact that the title says “World title ladder match added to Extreme Rules” when that was added over a week ago. Whats been added is who is in it, not the match itself.

Maybe the US title will be defended in an Extreme Rules match. I’m surprised there is no strap match yet. Looks like ScottHall4Life didn’t comment yet. He probably had to stay after school.

  • Evil Doink

There’s nothing Extreme about this PPV so far, except that it’s extremely dumb!

  • kannon

Everyone complains too much about Raw’s title holders.

“Miz will prolly beat R-Snooze, which will bring SuperCena out the following night on Raw to say ‘you didn’t beat me’ and it’ll be Miz v Cena at the next PPV also”

But if R-Truth wins you would be saying what has he done? or great he is best friends with Cena so now Cena is guaranteed a title shot next ppv. If you don’t like what WWE is showing every Monday don’t tune in and don’t rant about it. JUST SHUT UP!

  • Matt

the shit thing is, Miz will prolly beat R-Snooze, which will bring SuperCena out the following night on Raw to say ‘you didn’t beat me’ and it’ll be Miz v Cena at the next PPV also 🙁

  • rko

I think del rio and christian are going to put on a great ladder match.

@Keith Learmonth- I don’t think giving new guys a title shot is as much of an issue of Smackdown as it is Raw.For the past 2-3 years Orton or Cena have pretty much always being in the Main Title Picture at a PPV.

But it is nice to see some new faces in the title picture ,I’d even go as far to say that with R Truth aswell 🙂

To those of you who say WWE never gives anyone new a shot: Neither Christian or Del Rio has been the world heavyweight champion… So no matter who wins, it’s a new thing.

  • d

Christian should win smackdown really needs a face to build up without edge and taker around

  • Symbiote

Hopefully they give Christian a run with the title!

  • rick

Hopefully they finish the ppv with Christian v Del Rio, but I won’t hold my breath.

  • Dave

Really wish the 2 matches besides the ladder match were actually “extreme rules.” I guess that Vince for ya. Likes to ignore stipulations.
