WWE Looking to Re-Brand Gorgeous George, Sammartino Movie News, More

– The Italian Tribune News reported recently that the movie based on the life of WWE legend Bruno Sammartino will begin filming in April in Italy. The movie is also expected to film in Tokyo, New York, San Francisco and Pittsburgh.

– As noted earlier, Rey Mysterio vs. Wade Barrett in a 1-on-3 handicap match is advertised for WWE’s February 5th show in Toronto. The story behind this is that the match was originally booked as Big Show vs. 3 members of Nexus, before Nexus became The Corre. When The Corre came about, WWE changed the match to Mysterio vs. Barrett and most likely the 1-on-3 billing wasn’t removed from advertisements.

– WWE is doing a DVD on Hall of Famer Gorgeous George in an attempt to make him relevant, as they are also producing a movie on his life through WWE Studios. WWE wants to market George as the originator of sports entertainment and re-brand him as wrestling’s Babe Ruth type of character. It’s been reported before that the George DVD and WWE Studios movie are close projects to Vince McMahon.

@ Vinny… he probably wrestled for either Vince’s father or grandfather before the WWWF was in existence. The WWWF didn’t start until the 60s, and I think Gorgeous George had passed away by then.

  • Vinny

did Gorgeous George ever compete for WWE? or should I say WWWF?

Gorgeous George was one of the top guys in his day. Probably one of the most hated heels next to guys like Fred Blassie and Hans Schmidt (google Schmidt if you want to know about him… his era’s version of the Iron Sheik). This would be the second movie about him. The first was called The One And Only with Henry Winkler and it was loosley based on his career.

i don’t know if “re-brand” is an appropriate term. george has always been the OG of what Vince McMahon loves about the professional wrestling business.

  • Gary

he is the original, while others where wurried about ring skills, he was a KING of the mic….
