World Wrestling Entertainment spokesman Robert Zimmerman told the St. Louis based Riverfront Times newspaper that Undertaker’s fire accident at last night’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view was due to “a mistiming with the pyrotechnics.”

He added that Undertaker was only allowed to perform after being cleared by a ringside physician.

“Thank God he was fine,” Zimmerman said. “It basically amounted to a sunburn. It wasn’t over a large area of his body, just a short area, just a little bit on his chest.”

When asked if the incident will cause WWE to review or change their procedures for having flamethrowers as part of their productions, Zimmerman replied, “I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to anyone to find out what was the cause, if it was timing, if there was something wrong with whatever. We have to go back and investigate and make a final determination.”

Via Twitter, Jim Ross also commented on Taker’s fiery mishap.

“Undertaker is ok from what I understand but “lucky.” He’s a tuf as they come w/o question.”

@RyanMKZ LOL!!! It would’ve been nice if they had worked it into another Kane/Undertaker feud.

A burn is a burn and for him to go out and still perform just proves my screen name rite and as far as dropin the title after that I think not

  • Chris

Taker has really bad luck with pyro.

  • Andy

Anyone willing to bet that they will somehow work this into the HBK storyline? Maybe HBK was responsible for it?

And before anyone tries to flame me: YES, I realize it was a legit accident. I’m only implying that perhaps WWE will now try to tie it in.

  • Nobody

well I have to say in response to those who keep saying “it could have killed him.” The simple fact is it didn’t. It didn’t come anywhere close. In 2 decades of WWE using pyrotechnics, there’s never been a serious injury and that didnt change last night.
Yes someone made a mistake. No they shouldn’t be fired. Simple as that. Mistakes happen, even mistakes that involve life or death. It happened, Taker is fine, it’s over. I assure you that guy won’t make that mistake again whether he gets fired or not. He shouldn’t be fired for a timing mis-cue. If Taker had been seriously injured, it would have been a different story, but Taker would have had to have reacted in a dumb way for that to happen as well.
