CM Punk Talks About His Injury That Led To His UFC Debut Being Delayed Further

Since the UFC announced back in December that CM Punk would be joining the UFC, everyone from fans, fighters and media members have made their opinion clear about him going from the squared circle to the world famous Octagon.

Some agree that Punk joining the UFC will bring eyeballs from the pro wrestling audience to the mixed martial arts scene, but some also disagree with the move as they feel it hurts the sport of MMA.

Whichever way you feel about Punk going into MMA, you’re going to have to wait to see it because Punk has been sidelined for several weeks after “tweaking” his shoulder during a scramble in training.

Punk revealed on Monday (October 19, 2015) that at first, he thought the injury was serious.

“It was one of those pops where everybody in the room just turns and looks,” Punk told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour.

“I’d be fine if I could train, if I could do something,” Punk said. “But just kind of sitting around waiting for the MRI that week was pretty miserable. Riding the bike hurt. Jumping rope hurt. But it’s a lot better now.”

Many believed (even though Punk never stated he would) that Punk would be making his UFC debut in the end of 2015. That’s not the case as he and Duke Roufus has always stated that they’d entertain the idea of fighting in January if not later in 2016.

“I’m the one that ran my mouth and was like, ‘Oh I hope I fight by the end of the year,’” Punk said. “And obviously everybody twists and contorts things that you say. For some reason a lot of people thought that meant I was fighting by the end of the year. No, I’m just an ambitious fellow.”

“I don’t get paid unless I fight,” he said. “Why the hell wouldn’t I fight? So I can get paid.”

There’s still no word on who he may be fighting in his UFC debut.
