Tony Schiavone reveals WWE tried to sign him to stick it to AEW (Video)

Tony Schiavone revealed an interesting nugget of information on the official post-show for this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

Following the weekly AEW on TNT broadcast, the longtime pro wrestling commentator made his usual appearance on the official AEW Dynamite Post-Show, which streams live every week across the various All Elite Wrestling social media platforms immediately after the conclusion of the television broadcast.

During this week’s AEW Dynamite Post-Show, Schiavone spoke about receiving an offer to sign with World Wrestling Entertainment prior to inking the deal that made him one of the official voices of the upstart pro wrestling promotion based out of Jacksonville, Florida.

“I was getting jacked around by the WWE Human Resources department. Had Bruce [Prichard] or Vince [McMahon] contacted me before all of this happened, I would have gone to work for them. I kind of wanted to get back into wrestling, and I kind of wanted to get back in because of our podcast.”

According to Schiavone, WWE never offered him an actual position and had they, it might have ultimately worked.

Schiavone explained that as best he can tell, WWE was only looking to sign him to stick it to there soon-to-be competitors at AEW.

“They were very sketchy about it. We want you to come work here. Just come work here, that was it. We need more people here with a strong wrestling background. ‘Well what would I do?’ ‘Well, you would just work with us.’ There was never a position. I think Bruce was shooting with me when he said he didn’t know [what position]. It was very apparent what they were trying to do. I don’t blame Bruce for it. They wanted me so AEW couldn’t get me, and they would have run me right out of the door right behind Eric Bischoff. I know what Vince was thinking.”
