The legendary pro boxer Mike Tyson recently shared his take after three months have passed since Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock in a controversial incident. The highly debatable incident had transpired at the 94th Academy Awards. The video clip of Hollywood star Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the gala show spread like a wildfire on social media and became viral.
Mike Tyson shares his thought on the matter
When asked on Jimmy Kimmel Live if he had an opinion about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, Tyson said he thought it was “pretty interesting”:
“I don’t know, if he thought it was necessary to do it. If he’s not shocked, I’m not shocked.”
The Hollywood actor Will Smith was furious as he had stormed the Oscars stage. He smacked comedian Chris Rock across the face for joking about his wife, in a moment at Sunday’s gala that immediately went viral. The incident had stunned the viewers questioning if it had been scripted or genuine. However, it is still not clear.
Rock, presenting the best documentary prize with a short comedy routine, had cracked a joke comparing Jada Pinkett Smith’s tightly cropped hair to Demi Moore’s appearance in the film “G.I. Jane” and suggesting she appear in a sequel. In a moment that triggered awkward silence and confusion in the Dolby Theatre, Smith stepped up to Rock and slapped him.
He returned to his seat alongside Jada and shouting swearwords. For those unaware, Jada Pinkett Smith, who is also an actress, suffers from alopecia and publicly revealed her diagnosis in 2018. It was also noted by The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg, in attendance that a tearful Smith needed to be “pulled aside and comforted” by Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry during a commercial break.
Will Smith continues to lay low following his 10-year ban from all Academy-related events and his voluntary resignation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, while Chris Rock is working through the incident by focusing on his comedy tour.
