Chris Jericho has amassed an impressive career spanning over three decades. While his popularity may have waned among some fans, there is no denying the significant influence he holds. However, recent reports suggest that Jericho found himself in a controversial situation last year, allegedly leading to his arrest due to aggressive behavior while intoxicated at a hotel in Belfast.
Despite being hailed as “Le Champion” and earning the respect of many pro wrestling enthusiasts, Jericho has occasionally sparked controversy, particularly on social media platforms. His past interactions with hotels worldwide have been fraught with difficulties, evident in his public outbursts over the past few years. Notably, he publicly criticized the Wyndham Hotel for a negative booking experience and even engaged in a heated exchange with the manager of the Hilton Hotel, who allegedly threatened and belittled him.
During an episode of Jim Cornette’s Experience podcast, a fan’s letter was read aloud by Jim Cornette, shedding light on an incident involving Jericho at a hotel in Belfast in July 2022. According to the account, Jericho’s alleged aggressive behavior, fueled by intoxication, led to his arrest.
The letter described how a close friend, who happened to be a police officer in the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), provided bodycam footage showcasing Jericho’s drunken and belligerent state in the hotel’s corridor. The authorities were summoned due to reports of loud music, confrontations with hotel staff, and general disruption caused by the commotion emanating from Jericho’s room. The letter further detailed that the fan’s friend was one of the officers who responded to the incident.
According to the account, the police officer recognized Jericho and attempted to de-escalate the situation and restore order. However, Jericho responded by raising his arms and flexing in a display of dominance, accompanied by statements such as “Don’t you know who I am?”—common phrases one might expect from an intoxicated individual. Subsequently, he was apprehended by the officers and taken into custody. It is believed that he was released when he sobered up several hours later.
“A good friend who is a police officer in the PSNI, the Police Service of Northern Ireland, contacted me and showed me bodycam footage of a drunken, aggressive, and flexing man in the corridor of a local hotel in Belfast. The man in question was Chris Jericho. Police were called after reports of loud music, aggression towards hotel staff, and […] general disturbing of the peace coming from the hotel room he was staying in, and my friend was one of the officers to respond.
My friend […] recognized Jericho and attempted to talk him down and calm the situation. Jericho raised his arms and flexed to show his dominance to the officers, and stated, ‘Don’t you know who I am?’ and similar phrases one would expect from an inebriated individual. He was then arrested by the officers. I believe he was released when he sobered up a few hours later, but this tickled me to no end.”
