Sylvester Stallone, known for iconic roles like Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, has indicated that he is stepping away from some of his best-known characters and is unlikely to return to them in the future. During a discussion at the Toronto International Film Festival about his upcoming documentary “Sly,” Stallone addressed the subject of his movie roles.
Stallone has previously retired from the role of Rocky Balboa after “Creed II” and opted out of the next installment, “Creed III.” He has also decided not to return for “The Expendables 4.” When asked about the future of John Rambo, Stallone humorously replied, “Rambo, I could leave him. He’s done pretty much, even though they want to do another one, but what am I fighting? Arthritis?”
While Stallone’s comments suggest his reluctance to continue with these iconic roles, he acknowledged that franchises can live on without his involvement, as demonstrated by “Creed III.” The Rambo franchise may continue in some form in the future, even if Stallone chooses not to reprise the role.
Stallone’s portrayal of John Rambo in the “Rambo” film series has been a significant part of his career, with multiple sequels released over the years. The character has become a cultural icon, known for his action-packed adventures and combat skills. While Stallone’s future involvement in the franchise remains uncertain, there may still be more Rambo stories to be told, potentially with a new lead actor carrying the torch.
Stallone had previously considered a different approach to Rambo’s return, suggesting a Ken Burns-style documentary on Vietnam to explore the character’s origins. However, it appears that plans may have shifted toward a modern-day story where Stallone’s Rambo passes the torch to a new character. While details about this project are scarce, Stallone’s involvement could be limited, especially considering his venture into television with the series “Tulsa King.”
