Trump Drops ‘Death Wish’ Bombshell To Republican Senators

Former President Donald Trump expressed strong opposition to the compromise border bill negotiated by a bipartisan group of senators on Monday, characterizing it as “horrendous” and a “Death Wish for the Republican Party.” Trump shared his criticism on Truth Social, stating that only a fool or a Radical Left Democrat would support the proposed legislation.

In his critique, Trump highlighted a specific provision in the bill that grants shutdown authority only after 5000 daily encounters at the border. He argued that the existing right to close the border immediately should be exercised, emphasizing the urgency of addressing immigration and border security issues. Trump asserted that the bill would benefit Democrats while placing the blame for the perceived failures in immigration policies squarely on the shoulders of Republicans.

Trump called for a separate Border and Immigration Bill, urging it not to be tied to foreign aid. He emphasized the need to decouple immigration and border policies from other issues, particularly foreign assistance packages. According to Trump, the Democrats were responsible for the problems in immigration and border control, and they should take the initiative to fix them.

The former president had been actively urging Republicans to reject the bill, which included aid packages for Ukraine and Israel, even before the details were publicly disclosed. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell informed the party caucus that they were facing a dilemma as Trump wanted to make immigration a focal point of his 2024 campaign against Joe Biden.

“Only a fool, or a Radical Left Democrat, would vote for this horrendous Border Bill, which only gives Shutdown Authority after 5000 Encounters a day, when we already have the right to CLOSE THE BORDER NOW, which must be done,” argued Trump. “This Bill is a great gift to the Democrats, and a Death Wish for The Republican Party. It takes the HORRIBLE JOB the Democrats have done on Immigration and the Border, absolves them, and puts it all squarely on the shoulders of Republicans. Don’t be STUPID!!!”

“We need a separate Border and Immigration Bill,” concluded Trump. “It should not be tied to foreign aid in any way, shape, or form! The Democrats broke Immigration and the Border. They should fix it. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Senator James Lankford, the chief negotiator for the GOP on the team that crafted the bill, presented a different perspective on Fox & Friends. Lankford expressed amazement at the progress made under a Democratic president in enhancing detention capacities, increasing deportation flights, fortifying border security, and modifying asylum laws. He emphasized the need for Republicans to decide on their approach to border management – whether to keep it open or closed.

The contrasting views between Trump and Lankford underscored the internal divisions within the Republican Party regarding the border bill. The disagreement revolves around the prioritization of immigration issues in the broader political landscape and the perceived implications for the party’s electoral prospects in the upcoming presidential campaign.

As the debate continues, the fate of the border bill remains uncertain, with Republicans grappling with the challenge of reconciling divergent perspectives within their ranks. The intersection of immigration policy, foreign aid, and internal party dynamics adds complexity to the ongoing discussions surrounding this critical piece of legislation.
