During a press briefing, Jean-Pierre addressed the discrepancy, emphasizing that Transgender Day of Visibility has been observed on March 31 for several years. She clarified that Easter falls on different Sundays each year and coincided with Transgender Visibility Day this year.
Jean-Pierre highlighted a tweet from Fox News in 2021, which expressed support for Trans Day of Visibility, acknowledging transgender individuals and standing in solidarity with them. However, this year, Fox News’ tweets took a different tone, with one tweet criticizing President Biden’s proclamation on Transgender Day of Visibility occurring on Easter.
We were, at first, I want to be very clear, confused on their coverage. We’re grateful that Fox agrees with President Biden on the importance of recognizing Trans Day of Visibility. And I’ll just quote something that Fox said back in 2021. They tweeted this: “Trans Day of Visibility is dedicated to celebrating transgender people. To all the transgender men, women and nonbinary folk, we see you and stand with you.”
Jean-Pierre denounced the misinformation spread by Fox News, describing it as deliberately divisive. As a Christian who celebrates Easter, President Biden values bringing people together and upholding the freedoms and dignity of all Americans. Jean-Pierre concluded by stating that the misinformation spread by Fox News was dishonest and divisive, urging for accurate reporting and unity.
