WWE Current Champion Quitting For AEW

Reports suggest that WWE star and Speed Champion Ricochet has reportedly decided to depart the company after his contract expires in the summer of 2024.

As per Mike Johnson of PWInsider, who confirmed with multiple sources, Ricochet has officially given notice of his intent to leave the company upon the expiration of his contract. This move will likely see him phased out of WWE storylines soon.

Johnson noted the support within the industry for Ricochet’s decision, quoting a source who praised him for “betting on himself.” This sentiment indicates that Ricochet is viewed favorably for taking control of his career trajectory and could soon be a sought-after talent in the wrestling world.

“One source we spoke with said they were giving Ricochet ‘all the credit in the world for betting on himself.’ One would think he’ll quickly be a hot commodity as a free agent.”

Adding to the intrigue, AEW’s Will Ospreay expressed interest last month in reuniting professionally with Ricochet. Their past matchups have been massively praised, hinting at potential high demand for Ricochet’s performances once he becomes a free agent.

Since signing with WWE in 2018, Ricochet has had a notable impact in the wrestling world. Before his WWE stint, he achieved significant acclaim in various promotions such as New Japan Pro Wrestling—where he won the 2014 Best of Super Junior tournament—EVOLVE, Dragon Gate, and Lucha Underground. In Lucha Underground, he was a two-time LU Champion and starred as the masked Prince Puma, becoming a central figure of the El Rey Network series.
