Former President Donald Trump returned to Washington, DC, on Thursday for a meeting with Republican lawmakers, where he reportedly focused extensively on airing grievances about various critics, legal challenges, and his desire for pop star Taylor Swift’s endorsement.
According to accounts from reporters on Capitol Hill, Trump’s agenda included plans for retaliation against his adversaries, some of whom were present at the meeting. He expressed frustration over his legal issues and lamented his inability to secure Swift’s endorsement over President Joe Biden. CNN’s Melanie Zanona shared on Twitter that Trump questioned why Swift would endorse Biden, criticizing the president’s stage presence.
Trump also highlighted the Music Modernization Act, which he signed into law in 2018, as a reason why Swift should support him. In a February post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that he had facilitated significant financial gains for Swift through this legislation.
Swift has been a recurrent topic for Trump, as evidenced by a recent book excerpt published in Variety. The excerpt detailed Trump’s admiration for Swift’s appearance and talent, albeit with skepticism about her political views. He speculated whether her liberal stance was genuine or an act, expressing surprise that a country music star could thrive while leaning left.
During the same meeting with Republican lawmakers, Trump also remarked that he and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) would have made a formidable couple under different circumstances, adding another unusual anecdote to his discussions.
I think she’s beautiful — very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented. I think she’s very beautiful, actually — unusually beautiful!
He also commented that her left-leaning politics must be an “act”:
She is liberal, or is that just an act? She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.
