In the book, Trump questioned Swift’s political stance, asking Setoodeh, “She is liberal, or is that just an act? She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.”
Colbert seized on this, suggesting that Trump is perplexed by the idea that someone who is “beautiful” might not support him. With his characteristic wit, Colbert quipped, “Has he never met his wife?” pointing out the irony given Melania Trump’s often visibly indifferent demeanor towards her husband.
