It has been noted that in remarks that may not sit well with supporters, former President Donald Trump repeatedly called Taylor Swift “beautiful” as heard on newly-released audio aired by CNN on Wednesday night via Mediaite.
In the run-up to this year’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Fransisco 49ers, some right-wingers went off the deep end by promoting wild and barely coherent conspiracy theories about the pop superstar and her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. These theories involved a scripted Super Bowl prefacing an eventual Swift/Kelce endorsement of President Joe Biden as part of a plot to get the president reelected.
On Wednesday’s OutFront on CNN, Erin Burnett played audio furnished by writer Ramin Setoodeh, who is out with a new post-presidency biography of Trump titled Apprentice in Wonderland:
SETOODEH: What do you think about Taylor Swift, one of the most famous people right now?
TRUMP: Yeah, I think she’s beautiful, very beautiful. I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump, but I hear she’s very talented. But I think she’s very uh, I think she’s very beautiful actually – unusually beautiful.
“Five times,” Burnett said, referring to Trump’s “beautiful” count in his response.
“So, Taylor Swift, obviously he railed against her for endorsing Biden,” the host said to Setoodeh. “He seems to have a real focus on her, an obsession with her. Tell me more about it.”
“It’s interesting because, in this audio clip, we have an intersection of two of the things that matter most to Donald Trump,” he replied. “Fame, which Taylor Swift is one of the most famous people on the planet. And his perception of beauty. And I think even Donald Trump knows that Taylor Swift is so famous, that he can’t go up against her even though she didn’t endorse him in 2020. And so you hear him kind of trying to negotiate what to say about her. And later on in the clip, I even asked if he’s familiar with Taylor’s music and he says, ‘No.’ But this is his way of trying to say that he likes Taylor Swift in the hopes that somehow Taylor Swift will like him back.”
