It has been noted that a defiant President Joe Biden slammed former President Donald Trump as a “loser” and vowed to remain in the 2024 presidential race on Friday night during a campaign event in Michigan via Mediaite.
The embattled president has addressed the union workers and other voters in Detroit as he attempted to shift the narrative that he is not fit for office following his poor debate performance against Trump last month in Atlanta.
Speaking in Detroit on Friday, Biden addressed the elephant in the room while also discussing jobs, gun violence, and the November election.
“We’re going to stand up for our Constitution and save our democracy!” he declared before he addressed discussions in the media and among some congressional Democrats that he might exit the race.
“You probably noticed there is a lot of speculation lately,” Biden said to a raucous crowd. “‘What is Joe Biden going to do? Is he going to stay in the race? Is going to drop out?’ I am running and we’re going to win.”
Biden then talked about a Marist poll released on Friday that was commissioned by NPR and PBS News and found he leads Trump 50%-48%. The president claimed the poll was proof that his debate performance against Trump did not hurt him politically.
“The narrative that my campaign has fallen apart, they say,” Biden said. “I’m the nominee of the Democratic Party, the only Democrat or Republican who has beaten Donald Trump, ever. I’m going to beat him again.”
“I know him, Donald Trump is a loser,” Biden shouted to applause before he vowed to stay in the race.
He concluded, “I’m the nominee of this party because 14 million Democrats like you voted for me in the primaries. You made me the nominee, no one else. Not the press, not to pundits, not the insiders, not donors – you to voters. You decided, no one else and I’m not going anywhere.”
The poll cited by Biden concluded:
Biden’s support remains relatively unchanged from last month despite the view of many Americans that he lacks the mental fitness to serve as president. However, Biden outperforms Trump on whether either candidate has the character to be President of the United States, and by more than two to one, Americans are more concerned about a president who lies than they are about someone who is too old to serve. Both candidates remain flawed in the eyes of Americans, and majorities say neither should be on the ballot. Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, and Gretchen Whitmer do not improve the Democrats’ chances against Trump.
Whitmer was not present at Biden’s rally in Detroit as she was reported to have been traveling.
