It has been noted that President Joe Biden is “seething” at Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) after some of her key allies have joined a chorus of Democrats calling for him to drop his reelection bid amid concerns about his ability to win in November and to govern the country, CNN reported.
As per network anchor Kaitlan Collins, Biden is upset that his longtime Washington ally is not standing in his corner as calls ramp up for him to step aside with the election just a little more than three months away.
Politico was among other outlets that reported Friday that Pelosi is not opposed to an open convention wherein her party selects a candidate not named Biden. The outlet reported:
In a meeting with fellow California Democrats last week, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi stressed the need for an open process to choose the party’s next nominee if President Joe Biden steps aside, in an effort to avoid the appearance of a Kamala Harris coronation.
The discussion in that meeting of the California delegation, which includes 40 members, took place in the Capitol on July 10, at least partly focused on the complicated next steps for the Democratic Party if Biden left the ticket. And they specifically talked about the potential political downsides of party elites quickly crowning the vice president as the next nominee, according to four people familiar with the discussion, granted anonymity to discuss private conversations.
In addition to Pelosi’s reported support for an open convention, her ally Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) called on Biden to drop out of the race Friday, saying he was on a “trajectory to lose.”
