AEW To Hire McMahon After Massive Sale?

Vince McMahon decided to make his way back to WWE. A new filing showed that McMahon is returning to the WWE board of directors. Reports emerged that the WWE Board Of Directors also tried to stop Vince McMahon from returning. Former WWE co-presidents Michelle Wilson and George Barrios are also on the board. McMahon had stated that his intention was to facilitate a sale of the company.

There has been much speculation that Vince McMahon was looking to sell to a party that would commit to keeping him in charge of the company. It was further noted on Tuesday that Stephanie McMahon was resigning as Co-CEO of WWE and that Vince McMahon was unanimously voted in as Executive Chairman. Speculation was everywhere and it didn’t take more than a couple of hours before it was revealed that among the potential buyers interested in purchasing WWE was a group out of Saudi Arabia.

AEW is interested in WWE

On Thursday, Barron’s, a sister publication to the Wall Street Journal, reported the Khan family was ‘in the pool’ of potential suitors looking to buy WWE. More reported information on the Khan family interest in WWE has come to light. According to CNBC, AEW is interested in merging with WWE. AEW is owned by Tony & Shad Khan, who reportedly “could partner with a strategic media company to share the intellectual property while merging the wrestling leagues.” The Khans are reportedly open to discussing a potential role for Vince McMahon.

The report states that the Khans have had no talks regarding the matter with McMahon or WWE CEO Nick Khan. The report also makes it clear:

“The idea that Vince McMahon, the controlling shareholder of WWE, would merge his company with the much smaller AEW is a long shot.”

WWE is reportedly exploring a sale of the company before renewing its TV rights, which expire in 2024. WWE put out a press release on Thursday evening announcing they have “engaged outside advisors to support review of strategic alternatives,” mentioning that media rights negotiations are coming up.

In the press release it is said:

“WWE does not intend to comment further until the process has concluded or the Company has otherwise determined that further disclosure is appropriate or required.”
