Surrounded by his family during a pivotal moment at the Republican National Convention, Donald Trump formally accepted the nomination for the 2024 presidential race.
Melania Trump made a significant appearance before Trump’s acceptance speech, marking her first appearance at this week’s convention. However, she arrived solo, as the former First Couple’s son, Barron Trump, was notably absent.
In his speech, Trump expressed gratitude to his children, saying, “Don, Kimberly, Ivanka and Jared, Eric and Lara, Tiffany and Michael, Barron.” He also gave a heartfelt shoutout to his absent son, “We love our Barron,” which elicited a thunderous applause from the crowd.
Trump acknowledged Melania and his 10 grandchildren, many of whom were present with him throughout the night. On the previous evening, his eldest granddaughter, Kai Trump, 17, shared a personal touch about her grandfather, describing him as a “normal grandpa” who inquires about her school and sneaks her sweets when her parents aren’t looking.
As for Barron Trump, although he was invited to attend the Republican National Convention as a Florida delegate, his mother had previously announced in May that he would be unable to attend due to prior commitments. Barron has been noticeably absent from his father’s campaign trail, with his only appearance being at a July 9 rally in Miami. At that rally, Donald Trump humorously remarked on Barron’s popularity, noting, “You’re pretty popular; he might be more popular than Don and Eric, we gotta talk about this.”
Barron was also absent from a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a shooter attempted to assassinate his father, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including the shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks and spectator Corey Comperatore, with two others injured.
