Biden Breaks Silence On ‘Cannibal’ In Family

The reported comments from President Biden during his visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in Belleau, Northern France, include a personal anecdote about his uncle, which he has previously shared. Biden mentioned his uncle Bosie, whom he claimed was killed in World War II and allegedly eaten by cannibals in New Guinea.

He connected this story to his reflections on visiting military sites where veterans are buried, recalling memories of his family discussing the loss of their son and brother in the South Pacific and thinking about his late son Beau, who passed away from brain cancer in 2015.

Biden’s recounting of his uncle’s story has been subject to scrutiny, with some pointing out inconsistencies and inaccuracies. While Biden has repeated this anecdote in the past, there is no evidence to support the claim that his uncle was eaten by cannibals. Lt. Ambrose Finnegan Jr., Biden’s uncle, was a ground crew member and ordinance officer, not a reconnaissance pilot as Biden described. Finnegan died in a plane crash due to engine failure over the Bismarck Sea, not in an area known for cannibals.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reportedly referred to Biden’s retelling of this story as a “proud moment” for him, although this comment was not directly confirmed.

The incident has sparked controversy and raised questions about Biden’s recollection of family history and his tendency to embellish anecdotes.
