According to Mediaite, on Tuesday, former Attorney General Bill Barr sat down with Fox News anchor Bret Baier to discuss various topics, including the recently released Durham report and the bombshell allegations made against Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump’s former personal attorney. During the interview, Baier asked Barr about the sexual assault complaint filed in state court in New York on Monday, which accuses Giuliani of sexual assault and harassment, as well as attempting to sell pardons for $2 million each. The complaint was made by someone who had worked for Giuliani, who claimed to have evidence to support their allegations.
When Baier asked Barr if he thought it was possible that Giuliani had engaged in such behavior, Barr replied that he was skeptical and didn’t think Giuliani would do something like that. However, he did not have any concrete evidence to support this claim.
Baier then asked Barr about the impact of the Durham report on Trump’s chances of winning the GOP nomination for the 2024 presidential election. Barr replied that he believed the report would help Trump in the short term, but he did not think he would ultimately win the nomination. Barr explained that he did not have any personal antipathy towards Trump, but he did not believe he was the right leader for the Republican Party going forward. Barr believed that the party should look for a leader who could bring strength to Congress and achieve fundamental changes.
“This is someone who worked for Rudy Giuliani, who alleges not only sexual assault and harassment, but that she has evidence that he tried to sell pardons for $2 million apiece, which he and President Trump would split. Do you think that that’s possible?” Baier asked the former Trump cabinet official.
“Uh, I’m skeptical about that. I don’t think Rudy Giuliani would do that. I hope he wouldn’t, but I don’t know,” replied Barr.
“Finally, to follow up on, you said you weren’t endorsing the former president in this run. He is up pretty much in every poll that you look at – significantly. Obviously, this race is at the beginning. But now you have this Durham report in which, you know, what he was saying is backed up by what’s in these pages. Do you think that helps him? And do you think he’s going to win the GOP nomination?
My own view is that he will not win the nomination. And I have nothing personal against him. And there’s no you know, I have no antipathy toward him at all. But I just don’t think he’s the right leader for the Republican Party going forward. I think people who want to restore America should look for a big victory that brings strength into the Congress and allows us to achieve some fundamental changes. And I don’t think he’s capable of delivering that kind of victory.
The Durham report that Barr and Baier discussed is a long-awaited investigation into the origins of the Russia probe, which was conducted during Trump’s presidency. The report concluded that there were significant errors and omissions in the FBI’s application for a warrant to surveil former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. The report also revealed that there was no evidence of political bias in the FBI’s decision to open the Russia probe.
Overall, the interview between Baier and Barr provided insight into Barr’s views on Trump’s potential candidacy for the 2024 presidential election and the allegations made against Giuliani.
