In another episode of his Truth Social platform, former President Donald Trump reiterated his baseless claims of the 2020 election being stolen from him, this time by endorsing a post from Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). The congresswoman had shared an article by Jim Hoft, the founder of The Gateway Pundit, both known for promoting fake news and conspiracy theories.
Greene’s post centered around an article titled “Russian Textbooks Say Trump Lost 2020 in Rigged Election,” authored by Hoft. The article was a partial aggregation of a Newsweek piece discussing Russian world history textbooks that purportedly claimed Trump’s 2020 election loss resulted from “obvious electoral fraud by the Democratic Party.” Russian state media often portrays Trump positively, and the former president continues to propagate unfounded claims about the election.
In her post, Greene asserted, “When the Kremlin is more truthful than American mainstream media and Democrats.” This sentiment echoed Hoft’s declaration in his article that “Apparently, the Kremlin is more honest than our own Pravda media,” referring to Russian state-controlled media.
It’s essential to note that the claims made in the Russian textbooks, as well as the subsequent articles by Hoft and Greene, lack credible evidence and have been widely debunked. The 2020 election has undergone numerous audits, investigations, and court rulings, all confirming its integrity. Despite this, Trump and his allies persist in pushing unfounded narratives about election fraud, contributing to the dissemination of misinformation.
