Brock Lesnar Ruined Cody Rhodes WrestleMania Match?

Roman Reigns vs. The Rock was scheduled to take place at WrestleMania 39, however, The Great One’s crazily hectic schedule prevented him from being physically ready for the match. Now that the match has been confirmed for this year’s WrestleMania, The Rock seems to have worked hard to make it happen.

The Rock disclosed that discussions regarding a match with The Head of the Table are undoubtedly taking place already in an effort to heighten excitement for the highly anticipated match. Naturally, this greatly delighted the fans.

Many supporters, meanwhile, rather that he challenge Roman Reigns following WrestleMania. The Rock’s confrontation with Roman Reigns on SmackDown this week may have just changed that.

Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer message board reported that The Rock strongly advocated for the match at WrestleMania 40. The original plan involved Cody Rhodes facing Roman Reigns, with The Rock potentially facing Reigns later, either at next year’s Mania or in Saudi Arabia.

Due to different reasons, CM Punk and Brock Lesnar are off the programming and that’s why, the planned matches had to be changed, especially for Cody Rhodes. As a result, The Rock came up with a suggestion to alter the story and move the focus away from Vince McMahon’s situation. Originally, the matches were supposed to be Punk versus Seth Rollins and Cody versus Reigns, but Punk’s injury led to a change in plans.

”‘The Rock pushed super hard for it. The WrestleMania 40 card changed when CM Punk & Brock Lesnar were out and all the dominoes fell. Dwayne already wanted it and they [WWE] felt they now needed it as well. Felt this was better to change the news flow away from Vince.’ ‘Cody was the plan. Dwayne was going to face him [Roman Reigns] later, maybe next year’s Mania, maybe Saudi. The Vince thing ends up worse than they thought and they changed the plan. 100% it was Punk vs Seth and Cody vs Reigns until Punk got hurt.”
