According to Mediate, Chris Christie has suggested that the behavior of Mark Meadows, former White House chief of staff under Donald Trump, indicates that he may be cooperating with federal prosecutors in their cases against Trump.
Meadows has maintained a relatively low profile as his former boss faces multiple prosecutions, including charges related to retaining classified documents after leaving office and efforts to overturn the 2020 election. While some have speculated that Meadows could be cooperating with prosecutors, his absence from the indictment has raised suspicions.
During an appearance on CNN’s AC360, Christie was asked if he believed Meadows might be called to testify as a government witness.
“I think Mark Meadows is already a cooperating witness,” Christie responded, alluding to Meadows’ behavior, which he described as reminiscent of a cooperating witness. He pointed out that Meadows has been seen evading the press, which could be interpreted as an attempt to keep a low profile.
When Anderson Cooper, the host of the show, mentioned that Meadows was mentioned only a few times in the indictment, Christie further emphasized his point. He suggested that Meadows’ potential testimony could be significant given his close proximity to Trump during crucial periods.
Christie also noted that Meadows was deeply involved in Trump’s inner circle as chief of staff, attending numerous meetings and conversations. He referenced the hundreds of text messages that Meadows had turned over to the special counsel as part of the investigation.
Despite Trump facing indictments, his popularity within the Republican Party remains substantial, and he continues to hold a significant lead in the race for the party’s presidential nomination.
