Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has firmly stated that she is not considering stepping down to join the Democratic ticket as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate. Whitmer made this clear in a recent interview, emphasizing that she is committed to her current role and is not looking to leave it.
Whitmer also addressed rumors suggesting she might replace President Joe Biden on the ticket. She has publicly endorsed Harris and continues to serve as a co-chair for Harris’s campaign. In her endorsement, Whitmer praised Harris for her focus on issues important to Michigan voters, such as reducing costs, restoring freedoms, and strengthening the economy.
“In Vice President Harris, Michigan voters have a presidential candidate they can count on to focus on lowering their costs, restoring their freedoms, bringing jobs and supply chains back home from overseas, and building an economy that works for working people,” the governor wrote.
Additionally, filmmaker Michael Moore recently advocated for Biden’s resignation and proposed Whitmer as a potential partner for Harris. Moore, who previously organized a protest vote in Michigan’s Democratic primary, has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with Biden’s handling of certain issues. Despite this, Whitmer remains steadfast in her commitment to her current role and has reiterated that she is not pursuing a vice-presidential position.
