According to the book, Musk’s brother Kimbal and his close friends had a strong aversion to Heard and disliked her “with a passion.” They characterized her as “toxic” and a “nightmare.” One of Musk’s senior staff members even compared her to the Joker from Batman, suggesting that she thrived on destabilizing everything.
The biography portrays the relationship as a “dark vortex” and the most painful one Musk has ever experienced. Musk himself described it as “brutal” and said that it led to the “most concentrated period of pain” in his life.
The relationship between Musk and Heard began around the time of her split from actor Johnny Depp in May 2016. They broke up in July 2017 but got back together for another tumultuous five months before finally parting ways.
