Ex-WWE Star Passes Away After Breaking Back

It is with deep sadness that the wrestling world mourns the passing of former WWE Superstar Mike Halac, better known by his ring name Mantaur. Tragically, Halac lost his life following a back injury, as confirmed by Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Dr. Chris Featherstone.

The incident occurred when Halac suffered a fall on Tuesday, prompting his immediate hospitalization. Fearful of a potential fracture in his sixth (T-6) or seventh (T-7) thoracic vertebrae, he was understandably concerned about the severity of the injury. However, only hours later, the wrestling community received the devastating news that Halac had peacefully passed away in his sleep at the age of 55.

Numerous wrestlers took to social media to pay their respects and share their condolences for the 1990s star. Bryan Clark, known as Adam Bomb during his wrestling career, expressed his sadness over the loss, recalling his attempt to reach out to Halac after his fall. Clark was surprised by the lack of response, as it was unlike Halac, and woke up to the heartbreaking news. He sent prayers to Halac’s family and reminisced about their shared laughter, expressing his sorrow for the loss of a dear friend.

Halac’s portrayal of Mantaur in WWE between 1994 and 1995 remains his most notable role. The character was inspired by the Minotaur of Greek mythology, featuring a bull’s head and tail with a human body. Halac fully embraced the persona, often charging and mimicking the sounds of a bull during his matches.

Throughout his WWE tenure, Halac faced off against prominent wrestlers such as Bam Bam Bigelow, Bret Hart, and Razor Ramon. In 1996, he made a brief return to WWE as the bodyguard for Goldust. Halac’s final appearance for the company aired on July 5, 1997, under the name Tank during Shotgun Saturday Night. He teamed up with Recon and The Interrogator to defeat Adam O’Brien, Chris Steele, and Kevin Flynn in a memorable contest.

The untimely passing of Mike Halac leaves a void in the wrestling community, as fans and fellow wrestlers reflect on his contributions to the industry. His portrayal of Mantaur and his unforgettable matches will forever be etched in the memories of those who had the pleasure of witnessing his unique character come to life inside the squared circle. The wrestling world joins together in mourning the loss of a talented performer and extends heartfelt condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.
