Goldberg is eager to have a retirement match to wrap up his illustrious in-ring career. Unfortunately, the WWE has not yet scheduled the match, leaving Goldberg feeling disgruntled. Despite this, the idea of a retirement match for Goldberg has been floated around the writers’ room in the past.
According to previous reports, Goldberg is not entirely happy with his current in-ring status. As a free agent, he is disappointed that the WWE is not booking the retirement match he desires. Goldberg had a handshake agreement with Vince McMahon that after his match against Roman Reigns, he would have a proper retirement match. However, that has not come to fruition, leaving Goldberg feeling unsatisfied.
The wrestler feels that nobody can put a stamp on his career, and nobody can dictate when he’s done. Goldberg is a fighter and prefers to go out on his own terms. He doesn’t want to retire three weeks after battling COVID-19 and agreeing to a match with Roman Reigns. Ringside News reached out to confirm Goldberg’s story and was informed that nobody in the WWE creative team is discussing Goldberg. It is also evident that WWE is aware that Goldberg may take his retirement match to AEW.
Interestingly, the last time anyone pitched an idea for Goldberg in WWE was a retirement angle that Paul Heyman wanted to do. Unfortunately, this idea was dropped as other matters took priority. Heyman’s idea was liked by Vince McMahon, but it was never discussed once the hush money scandal erupted.
The scandal forced McMahon out of the company for months, and when he returned, he had a different set of responsibilities. While McMahon can still book a retirement angle for Goldberg, it seems that the company is no longer interested in this idea.
A Goldberg retirement match has the potential to attract a lot of attention, as we’ve seen with the likes of Ric Flair and The Great Muta’s retirement matches. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen if anyone will capitalize on Goldberg’s final outing in the ring, given that the WWE does not seem keen on the idea at the moment.
WWE is not talking about Goldberg's retirement right now. We were told an interesting factoid though.
Paul Heyman once pitched a Goldberg retirement angle that Vince McMahon liked before his scandal erupted.
