Jennifer Lopez has recently addressed the misconception that she abstains from alcohol, following the launch of her cocktail brand, Delola, in April, due to her husband Ben Affleck being a recovering alcoholic. Fans expressed skepticism about her venture due to her well-known stance on not drinking.
In an Instagram video shared on July 4th, Jennifer directly addressed the rumors and clarified her perspective. She admitted that for a long time, she indeed refrained from consuming alcohol. However, within the last decade, her viewpoint on drinking has evolved. Jennifer confessed, “I do enjoy the occasional cocktail,” emphasizing that her consumption is always mindful and responsible. She stated, “I don’t drink to get [explicit]. I drink to be social and have a nice time.”
The motivation behind launching her own cocktail line, Delola, was to create a product that aligns with her lifestyle. Jennifer emphasized that she wanted a drink that suited her own preferences and the way she drinks.
Upon the initial announcement of Delola in April, some of Jennifer’s Instagram followers questioned her decision to sell alcohol, considering her past statements about avoiding its negative effects. In the comments, one user asked why she didn’t create a non-alcoholic brand given her outspokenness about the downsides of alcohol and her personal choice to abstain from drinking. This led to curiosity about why she was venturing into the alcohol industry.
In previous interviews with InStyle, Jennifer had mentioned her reasons for generally avoiding alcohol in her diet. She expressed concern about its impact on the skin and would often toast with alcohol only symbolically, taking just a sip. In a 2018 cover story for the same magazine, she credited her youthful appearance to staying away from alcohol and caffeine, stating that her dedication to self-care was evident in her radiant glow.
