North Texas native and acclaimed Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx has once again demonstrated his love for his hometown by bestowing a remarkable gift upon the community. The City of Terrell joyfully announced that Foxx, who was born and raised in Terrell, has facilitated the creation of a brand-new basketball court at Breezy Hill Park, located just south of Southwestern Christian College.
The vibrant court, adorned in a striking shade of red, proudly displays Jamie Foxx’s name at its center, while the words “Foxx Hole: Believe & Achieve” hover above it, serving as a powerful testament to the actor’s unwavering commitment to inspiring others. On the sideline, one can spot the inscription “Terrell Fighting Tigers,” paying homage to the local high school team, as well as “Gilbert Willie Charities,” a touching tribute to Foxx’s dear friend, Gilbert Willie.
Gilbert Willie holds a special place in Foxx’s heart. The friendship between the two is deeply rooted in shared history and Terrell’s tight-knit community. Gilbert’s father, Gilbert Willie Sr., devoted more than three decades of his life to serving the Terrell Independent School District as an esteemed coach, teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent before his passing in 2013. To honor his remarkable legacy, Terrell ISD renamed John F. Kennedy Elementary School to Gilbert Willie Sr. Elementary School in 2017.
In a heartwarming Facebook post announcing the unveiling of the new basketball court, the City of Terrell expressed its gratitude to Jamie Foxx and Gilbert Willie Charities for their instrumental role in bringing this phenomenal addition to Breezy Hill Park. The city’s excitement was palpable as it invited everyone to come together and embrace the joy of playing ball on this splendid court.
“Look what’s new at Breezy Hill Park! Let’s play ball! A shout out to Jamie Foxx and Gilbert Willie Charities for making this awesome court possible!”
Although Jamie Foxx has recently faced a health-related setback, his resilient spirit and love for his craft continue to shine through. In mid-April, while filming in Atlanta, the actor was hospitalized due to an undisclosed “medical complication.” Since then, little information has been made public. However, in May, Foxx’s daughter, Corrinne Foxx, took to social media to provide a reassuring update. She dismissed sensationalized media reports, emphasizing that her father had been out of the hospital for weeks and was already engaged in recreational activities like pickleball. The family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers.
It wasn’t until May that Jamie Foxx himself took to Instagram to express his appreciation for the love and well-wishes he had received from his devoted fans. Feeling blessed by their unwavering support, Foxx confirmed that he was steadily recuperating from his recent health scare. This statement marked his first public communication since his hospitalization, providing a glimpse into his positive mindset and unwavering determination.
“Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild,” Jamie Foxx’s daughter, Corrinne Foxx, said in May. “My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!”
