A psychiatrist specializing in elderly and dementia patients has suggested that President Joe Biden may have been on medication during his impassioned and energetic State of the Union Address the previous day.
Dr. Carole Lieberman, a forensic psychiatrist based in Beverly Hills, commented that Biden’s speech exhibited signs of stimulant use, potentially to mask cognitive decline. Lieberman highlighted the president’s heightened speed and volume of speech, traits often associated with amphetamine use like Adderall.
While noting that she hadn’t personally examined the president, Lieberman pointed out other behaviors during the speech, such as Biden’s increased gesturing and rapid hand movements, which deviated from his usual manner of speaking behind a podium.
Dr. Lieberman, who has not personally examined the president, said the signs of potential pharmaceutical use go beyond how Mr. Biden spoke during the nearly 90-minute speech, but also in his mannerisms.
For example, Mr. Biden typically rests his hands on the podium while delivering a speech from the teleprompter. During the State of the Union, he frequently gestured and moved with his hands at a rapid rate, she said.
Although occasional slurring of words is not unusual for Biden, Lieberman observed that the speed and intensity of his speech were unusually accelerated during the address, leading her to suggest the possibility of pharmaceutical intervention.
Lieberman’s observations were echoed by other political commentators who noted Biden’s unusually animated delivery. Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer remarked on the president’s heightened energy and rapid speech.
Meanwhile, the Republican response to Biden’s address focused heavily on criticisms of his administration’s handling of border security, economic policies, and foreign affairs. Freshman Senator Katie Britt delivered the official response, criticizing Biden’s perceived detachment from the concerns of everyday Americans.
Britt specifically criticized Biden’s approach to immigration, highlighting the surge in illegal border crossings and the suspension of deportation policies. She also took aim at the president’s economic policies, contrasting Biden’s optimism with the struggles faced by many Americans.
