Vice President Kamala Harris recently had a chat with the Wall Street Journal for a profile published Monday and Harris argued that she is ready to be president.
It has been noted that the Journal’s Tarini Parti noted the current political climate surrounding President Joe Biden’s mental fitness and age and asked Harris, “Do voters’ concerns about President Biden’s age mean she must convince them she is ready to serve?” Parti reported Harris’s answer and her tone:
“I am ready to serve. There’s no question about that,” Harris responded bluntly. Everyone who sees her on the job, Harris said, “walks away fully aware of my capacity to lead.”
Parti’s conversation with Harris aboard Air Force Two comes after Special Counsel Robert Hur described Biden as an “elderly old man” with memory problems who couldn’t recall key events, like his own son’s death, during their official interview.
While the White House and Biden have pushed back hard on Hur’s report, an ABC News/Ipsos poll out over the weekend found that “86% of Americans think Biden, 81, is too old to serve another term as president.”
Parti and Harris go on to discuss abortion and the role the issue will likely play in the 20024 election.
“Allies of Harris say she was poorly utilized by the White House early in her tenure and is now positioned to show her value to the presidential ticket, especially in turning out key Democratic voters on abortion rights,” Parti writes after noting that Harris has regularly polled below Biden in national polls – even with Biden’s numbers dropping to historic lows.
“I do believe that the majority of people have an empathy gene,” Harris told Parti, adding, “And the more they realize what has actually been happening since the Dobbs decision came down, the more open they are to consider the fundamental point, which is: Should the government be telling a woman what to do?”
Harris also spoke about the pushback the Biden administration has received from some in the Democratic base over the president’s staunch support for Israel during the current conflict.
“I get it—I get why people are protesting. We are working around the clock to end this conflict,” she told the Murdoch-owned Journal.
