According to Just The News, the House Republican Conference’s efforts to impeach President Biden have hit a roadblock as GOP leadership seeks to divert the matter to committees rather than allowing a full floor vote. The attempt to impeach Biden, driven by the most conservative members of the conference, primarily focuses on his handling of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Tensions escalated on Wednesday when Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert engaged in a heated argument on the House floor regarding their competing impeachment resolutions. As a result, the issue is now expected to be referred to the House Rules Committee, which could vote as early as Thursday to send Boebert’s resolution to the Homeland Security and Judiciary committees for further consideration.
Before the leadership team attempted to move the Boebert resolution to the Rules Committee, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy advised members of his conference to vote against it. McCarthy expressed his belief that presenting the resolution on the floor without making a compelling case or argument would not be fair to the American public. Additionally, McCarthy argued that bringing the resolution for a final vote could potentially derail ongoing GOP investigations into Biden, including those examining allegations of using his influence as vice president to benefit his son Hunter Biden’s international business dealings.
It is almost certain that every House Democrat would vote against impeaching Biden, and even Republicans representing moderate congressional districts might also vote against the resolution. This scenario means that the measure could ultimately fail and potentially backfire on the GOP.
