In the early days of the Trump presidency, Melania Trump, while still residing in New York with her son Barron, took on the customary role of selecting furniture for the White House residence. However, her husband, Donald Trump, known for his more extravagant tastes, reportedly replaced some of Melania’s chosen pieces with selections that aligned more with his preferences, as detailed by author Kate Andersen Rogers in the book “American Woman.”

Despite not having complete control over the décor, Melania aimed to convey optimism about her future in Washington. She utilized social media, particularly Twitter, to share a view of the Washington Monument from within the White House and expressed anticipation for the memories they would create in their new home.

Rogers notes that while Donald Trump may have had the final say in the furniture choices, Melania asserted her independence by maintaining a separate suite from the president within the White House. Additionally, she arranged for her parents, Amalija and Viktor, to move into the room previously occupied by Michelle Obama’s mother, ensuring their proximity.

These details provide a glimpse into Melania Trump’s efforts to navigate her role and express her individuality within the confines of the White House during the early days of the Trump presidency.
