Mike Kanellis reveals why he asked WWE for a release

Former WWE 24/7 Champion recently spoke on The Smarks & Stripes podcast and talked about the reason behind him asking to quit the company last month. He also revealed why he feels WWE did not grant him the release.

Kanellis joined WWE along with his wife Maria Kanellis in 2017, but has unfortunately failed to make a major impact. Kanellis stated that the reason for him asking for a release was a personal one:

For me, it was all personal. It had nothing to do with the company. Since the minute I got to WWE, they’ve treated me great; they’ve treated my wife great; they’ve treated my daughter great. They’ve treated me great. When I came out and said that I had an addiction, there was no negativity from anybody – it was just constant support.

He further added that he feels that he is in the best shape of his career and he wants to make the most of it by wrestling as much as he can.

Talking about why he wasn’t granted the release Kanellis stated:

As far as not giving me my release, I think it’s like anywhere. The [New England] Patriots aren’t going to release someone they think the [New York] Jets are going to pick up. And I think we have to think of it like that. It’s not negative – that’s just how it works! It works in sports and it works in wrestling.
