The legendary pro boxer Mike Tyson has been involved in several bouts in his illustrious career. Now, it seems his body is going through wear and tear. He was spotted in public this week while out in New York City. But, the sights had raised concerns for the fans as he needed a cane to get around. ‘Iron Mike’ has reportedly been dealing with a “sciatica flare-up” in his back. He was recently pictured in a wheelchair at Miami International Airport on Tuesday.
Tyson’s latest outing when he was assisted in a wheelchair by an airport employee came exactly three weeks after he was seen moving gingerly while out in New York City.
The boxing legend was filmed making his way from a car to his hotel room, using what appeared to be the same walking stick he held in Miami. At the time, TMZ reported that it was “nothing serious. Just an occupational hazard for an athlete like Mike.” Sources close to Mike told the outlet that he hasn’t suffered any new injuries and he is just working through a little bit of an old back issue.
Reason for being in the wheelchair revealed
A doctor recently filmed a video and tried to explain in detail what happened to ‘Iron Mike’ and what actually ‘sciatica flare-up is. According to him, it is basically a broad term for nerve-type symptoms or nerve pain.
“Going down our b*tt or our legs the problem is usually coming from the lumbar spine, so if you have a herniated disc or if you have like a bone spur something can be compressing that lumbar nerve in the lumbar spine. But the symptoms go down the legs. We call that radicular symptoms typically the treatment for this is giving it some time anti-inflammatories. We can try physical therapy, but if those things don’t work sometimes, you need injections to the area versus surgery, “ doctor explained.
