Were WWE planning to kill off the Randy Orton character? On the latest episode of the “Nitty Gritty Dirt Show” on RussosBrand.com, host Billi Bhatti and former WWE writer Vince Russo, discussed how the original plan for the upcoming WWE Fastlane pay-per-view, was to cumulate in a Randy Orton/Bray Wyatt gimmick match where ‘The Fiend’ would essentially ‘kill off’ Orton. Wrestling-Edge transcribed Bhatti’s comments below. This WWE Hall of Famer recently accepted a challenge issued by Randy Orton.
Bhatti: So I was inquiring about the WrestleMania card before and I was told the very clear direction for Edge was this. That the Fiend and Randy Orton would main event Fastlane – which would be the first show on Peacock. I didn’t know it at the time but they needed a match on that show that didn’t involve any of the titles because the Elimination Chamber would have determined one main event for WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble would have determined the other.
Bhatti: So Bray Wyatt and Orton’s gimmick match would have been a match where the final thing on Fastlane would have been that Randy Orton has died. That is supposed to be how they finished Fastlane – I don’t know the exact circumstances but the impression would have been that at Fastlane the feud would have been over and that Randy Orton is no more. Randy Orton ‘ruined’ this Bray Wyatt Raw return.
