President Biden’s reelection campaign recently launched a new ad featuring narration by actor Robert De Niro, aimed at portraying former President Trump as an “unhinged, power-hungry candidate.” The ad, titled “Snapped,” is part of a substantial $14 million media investment for May and will be broadcast on television and digital platforms in battleground states, as well as on national cable channels.
In the 30-second ad, De Niro highlights a series of controversial actions by Trump during his presidency, such as “midnight tweets,” suggesting drinking bleach as a COVID-19 remedy, and tear-gassing citizens for a photo opportunity. De Niro argues that Trump became even more unstable after losing the 2020 election, desperately clinging to power and now running for president again with threats to act as a dictator and terminate the Constitution. The ad also includes a clip of Trump warning of a “blood bath” if he is not elected.
Trump initially made the “blood bath” comment in a speech about auto imports, suggesting Biden’s reelection would damage that industry. He later used the term to describe the border situation.
“Trump wants revenge, and he’ll stop at nothing to get it,” De Niro declares in the ad.
The Biden campaign claims the ad is meant to underscore the stark differences between Biden and Trump as the November election approaches. Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Biden’s campaign manager, stated, “This ad lays out the clear contrast voters will see a month from now when Trump stands on the debate stage next to Joe Biden: Trump is running to regain power for himself, while Joe Biden is running to serve you, the American people.”
