It has been noted that a group of Republican senators accosted Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday. They demanded answers over her failure to protect former President Donald Trump during last week’s assassination attempt against him via Mediaite.
It has come to light that the group, which included Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), and Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), surrounded Cheatle after spotting her at the RNC on Wednesday evening. They expressed their disappointment over the Secret Service being unable to protect Trump, who was shot in the ear on Saturday.
Barrasso told Cheatle he was “very disappointed” in her leadership, before urging the director to “resign tonight or start answering our questions right now.”
Blackburn then berated Cheatle for failing to protect Trump despite reports about a “suspicious person” at the rally.
Cheatle tried to leave, the senators protested, “No, no, no, we’re going with you.” They followed Cheatle as she walked away and shouted at her on camera.
“You cannot run away from your responsibility to the people of the United States!” shouted Barrasso. “You’re the head of the Secret Service!”
Blackburn yelled, “You owe answers!”
Cheatle has met with backlash from Republicans following the near-miss assassination attempt against Trump on Saturday, with several prominent Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, calling on the Secret Service director to resign.
