Three Trump White House Officials ‘Condemn Him’

As Donald Trump pursues a third bid for the presidency, he faces vehement opposition from a notable contingent of former officials who are sounding alarms about his candidacy. Mark Esper, former Defense Secretary, has labeled him a “threat to democracy,” while John Bolton, ex-national security adviser, deems him “unfit to be president.” Former Vice President Mike Pence has abstained from endorsing him, citing “profound differences.”

This chorus of detractors, unprecedented in modern times, consists of individuals who directly observed Trump’s actions in office and the subsequent upheaval.

Sarah Matthews, a former Trump aide who testified before the House Jan. 6 committee, finds it “mind-boggling” that numerous senior staff members have condemned him. She urges the public to heed their warnings, emphasizing their proximity to Trump’s leadership style.

Despite these criticisms, Trump maintains support from a majority of Republican lawmakers and officials, with many expressing fervent endorsement for his reelection bid. The Trump campaign underscores the backing of numerous former Cabinet officials and aides, despite the vocal dissent from some quarters.

However, the Biden campaign amplifies the criticism from former Trump officials, hoping to sway Republican voters away from supporting Trump’s candidacy. They highlight the concerns expressed by these individuals regarding Trump’s suitability for office.

The division among former Trump officials mirrors the friction experienced during his tenure, characterized by clashes between Trump’s demands and resistance from some aides. The tumultuous aftermath of the 2020 election saw resignations and firings, particularly as Trump sought to overturn his electoral defeat.

Notably, Trump’s pressure on Pence during the January 6 events further exacerbated tensions within his administration. Pence’s refusal to endorse Trump, citing Jan. 6 among other issues, reflects a broader disillusionment among former allies.
