Trump Drops ‘Smoking Gun Tape’ Bombshell

Former President Donald Trump recently tried to quote NBC’s Senior Legal Correspondent Laura Jarrett on social media Tuesday night. However, he slightly missed via Mediaite.

It has been noted that Jarrett appeared on Tuesday’s Today and said that the prosecution in Trump’s New York criminal has its work cut out for them. The former president pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide the hush money payments to cover up extramarital affairs.

“The challenge for prosecutors is there is no smoking gun,” she said. “There is no email. There is no tape that can actually prove the former president’s intent. And so, unless he gets on the stand and is cross-examined and something explosive happens, they really don’t have a way to actually prove that part of the case.”

Trump seized on the remarks and posted them on Truth Social – sort of:

NBC TODAY SHOW: “THE CHALLENGE IS THERE IS NO SMOCKING GUN, NO EMAIL OR TAPE TO PROVE THE PRESIDENT’S INTENT. THEY DON’T HAVE A WAY TO PROVE THAT!!!” Thank you to NBC FAKE NEWS, one of the worst in the business!!!

The court has heard testimony on Tuesday as adult film actress Stormy Daniels took the stand. She had alleged that she had sex with Trump in 2006, the year after he married Melania Trump. Trump allegedly arranged a $130,000 hush money payment to Daniels to keep her quiet ahead of the 2016 election.

Daniels has offered graphic testimony about the alleged encounter, prompting the judge to sustain several objections from Trump’s attorneys. While on the stand, Daniels admitted to hating Trump.

After court adjourned for the day, the ex-president took a victory lap and told reporters, “Their case is falling apart.” A quick scan of Wikipedia indicates, “Smocking is an embroidery technique used to gather fabric so that it can stretch.”

Regarding Trump’s claim that, “There is no smocking gun,” we rate this as true.

In 2018, Trump similarly quoted a Fox News pundit as saying, “Democrats can’t find a smocking gun tying the Trump campaign in Russia.”
