Democratic strategist and CNN political commentator Maria Cardona recently stated that a “discombobulated” Donald Trump had fumbled his handling of booing Libertarians on Saturday when the former president spoke at the Libertarian Party Convention via Mediaite.
It has been noted that the booing from the convention crowd was persistent and after 15 minutes, Trump responded, saying, “Keep getting your three percent every four years.”
CNN’s Jim Acosta on Monday said the attempt to win over third-party voters “blew up in [Trump’s] face.”
“[The campaign] is very careful about keeping him away from this stuff,” Acosta said. “And this just sort of blew up in his face.”
Cardona then blasted Trump’s response to the disgruntled crowd and predicted there’ll likely be “some hell to pay within the campaign staff.”
“That’s what’s so surprising for a campaign team this time around that is very focused on making sure that he doesn’t get this kind of reaction, and I think there’s going to be some hell to pay within the campaign staff,” Cardona, a former Hillary Clinton advisor, said. “He looked discombobulated, he looked redder than usual, sweaty, deer in the headlights because this is not the kind of reaction that he normally gets.”
It seems that the negative response wasn’t “surprising,” and Cardona added that Trump does not have a lot of agreement with libertarian values, citing the former president’s support of states restricting or banning abortion and his promise to be a “dictator” for a day when he’s back in office.
“Donald Trump’s agenda and his policies are the furthest thing from Libertarian that you can get,” she said.
