Former President Donald Trump has unleashed a torrent of criticism aimed at David Weiss, following Weiss’ appointment as Department of Justice special counsel in the investigation involving Hunter Biden. Trump vehemently attempted to distance himself from Weiss, shedding responsibility for nominating him as Delaware’s US attorney in the first place.
In a post on the recently launched Truth Social platform, Trump expressed his disapproval of Weiss’ selection for the role, asserting that Weiss had been chosen by two Democratic Senators from Delaware under a process known as a “Blue Slip.” Trump emphatically distanced himself from Weiss by stating, “He would not have been picked by me.” Trump then proposed an alternative candidate, Deranged Jack Smith, implying that Weiss was not his preferred choice for the position.
Trump also seized the opportunity to criticize Weiss’ handling of the Hunter Biden investigation. He accused Weiss of overseeing the investigation for four years and granting Hunter Biden a favorable deal. Trump referred to this as a “sweetheart” deal and suggested that a judge in Delaware had seen through the arrangement. He contended that both the Department of Justice and himself sought a new judge and jurisdiction for the case, echoing concerns about the investigation’s conduct and potential biases.
The former president’s sentiments were echoed by prominent Republicans, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer. Both criticized Attorney General Merrick Garland’s decision to appoint Weiss as special counsel, raising questions about Weiss’ objectivity and his role in negotiating the Hunter Biden plea deal. McCarthy questioned how Weiss could be trusted as a special counsel if he had been involved in the controversial plea deal negotiations.
Meanwhile, Representative Comer condemned the move as part of an alleged effort by the Justice Department to conceal evidence related to President Joe Biden’s involvement in his family’s financial dealings. Comer suggested that the appointment aimed to obscure evidence of the Bidens’ financial activities involving foreign nationals.
“David Weiss was picked by the two Democrat Senators from Delaware under ‘Blue Slip.’ He would not have been picked by me,” wrote Trump in a Truth Social post on Friday evening. “But I have a great idea. Why don’t they use Deranged Jack Smith.”
He continued, “Weiss has been investigating Hunter for 4 years, giving him the ‘sweetheart’ deal of all sweetheart deals. But a brilliant Judge in Delaware saw through it all. Now, I read, the Department of Injustice wants a new Judge and Jurisdiction. But so do I, with far stronger reasons than Hunter & Crooked Joe. MAGA!!!”
This move by Attorney General Garland is part of the Justice Department’s efforts to attempt a Biden family coverup in light of the House Oversight Committee’s mounting evidence of President Joe Biden’s role in his family’s schemes selling ‘the brand’ for millions of dollar to foreign nationals.”
