Vice President Kamala Harris recently challenged her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, to adhere to the planned ABC debate in September, taunting him for “backpedaling” via Mediaite.
It has been noted that the previous debate between Trump and President Joe Biden is widely viewed as the possible reason of Biden’s exit from the presidential race, and Trump has said that he would prefer to have the second debate hosted on Fox News, instead of ABC.
Fox News invited Trump and Harris to a debate to be held on September 17 after Biden stepped aside. The ABC News debate is currently scheduled for September 10.
Harris spoke to reporters on Thursday afternoon as she exited Air Force Two at Joint Base Andrews, and was asked about the potential debates with Trump. The presumptive Democratic nominee noted the ABC News debate as the “previously agreed upon September 10 debate,” and noted that Trump had “agreed to that previously.”
“Now it appears he is backpedaling, but I’m ready,” said Harris, “and I think the voters deserve to see this split screen that exists in this race on a debate stage.”
“And so, I’m ready, let’s go!” she concluded, before turning and walking to a waiting vehicle with her Secret Service detail. Reporters shouted additional questions at her, including asking if she would be willing to do a debate on Fox News and about the anti-Netanyahu protests in Washington, D.C., Wednesday, but she did not answer.
Thursday morning, Harris issued a statement strongly condemning the “dangerous hate-fueled rhetoric” of the “unpatriotic protestors” who burned U.S. flags and posted pro-Hamas graffiti.
