Ty Cobb isn’t holding back in his remarks against Donald Trump. The former White House lawyer stated to Erin Burnett during his appearance on Monday’s OutFront on CNN that the former president may be sent to a night to a weekend in jail. Cobb was talking about Trump’s violation of the gag order imposed by Judge Tanya Chutkan.
Judge Chutkan is overseeing the case about Trump trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Trump has attacked Special Counsel Jack Smith on multiple occasions, but Chutkan hasn’t charged him with any additional charges unlike Judge Arthur Engoron.
According to Mediaite, Cobb thinks that the penalty for his violation will be bigger than what the former president has been charged by Judge Engoron. It’s worth noting that Trump has a civil case in Arthur Engoron’s court, but the same is not the case in Tanya Chutkan’s court. It would be interesting to see if what he said becomes a fact or if this pure speculation.
Burnett: One other thing I wanted to ask you about just as a quick follow here before we go on the point about the gag order. So, where does he end up on this?
Cobb: Well, the New York judge fined him $10,000. That’s in a civil case. That’s not as consequential as Judge Chutkan’s case… I think she’ll come in with a much heavier penalty, and ultimately, I think he’ll spend a night or a weekend in jail.
Burnett: Wow
Cobb: I think it’s gonna take that. I think it’ll take that to stop him.
Burnett: Wow, that’ll be an incredible thing to actually see happen.
Judge Tanya Chutkan has been lenient towards Donald Trump
A case can be made that Judge Tanya Chutkan isn’t as strict as Judge Arthur Engoron. Tanya issued a partial gag order which prohibits Trump from attacking court staff and witnesses. Trump’s lawyers are appealing against the order, but it needs to be seen if they will be successful in getting the order removed.
Donald Trump is not holding anything and is attacking anyone who doesn’t think the way he wants others to look at things. He stated that agreeing to cooperate with the prosecution is something “weaklings” and “cowards” do. It would be interesting to see if his words come to bite him in due time.
